Walter Baranowski
Oil / Wax Impressionist Painter
As a painter and illustrator for over 50 years the artist has experimented with many techniques and media. The medium he most favors is an oil paint / cold wax mix resulting in the ability to apply sequential layers for glowing transparent colors and a durable matte finish. In the series “Water Works” which comprises most of the current work the artist theorizes that water is the magnet for light and color. The paintings in this series are his means to prove this. Oil / wax mix was found to be especially effective in this series.
Other series of paintings concentrating on more down-to-earth subjects also make use effects of light and color by using the oil / wax medium in a different ways.
Trained in fine art at Mass College of Art, the artist also took lessons from Helen M. Pierce. His painting effects continue to emulate the style and contemplative character of renowned painter Miyo Onishi. His work is regularly shown in New England exhibits and galleries (see ‘Contact’ page).
